President Obama supports our female veterans

Buried in a house bill (HR 2646) is a synopsis that says so much about the compassion of our commander-in-chief toward the most vulnerable of our veterans:

"Extends to December 31, 2018, specified authority for: (1) treatment, rehabilitation, and additional services for seriously mentally ill and homeless veterans; (2) housing assistance for homeless veterans; (3) the Advisory Committee on Homeless Veterans; and (4) transfers of real property under the Secretary's jurisdiction or control. Extends to September 30, 2020, the recovery audit program for certain fee basis and other medical services contracts concerning non-VA care and services for veterans and beneficiaries."

Extending these benefits to 2018 will give a hand up to our most vulnerable veterans to get on their feet, resolve some of their issues and integrate more completely into society.

Homeless female veterans may only be 2 percent of the population, but these women often need more support because they might have dependent children or come from a disadvantaged background. President Obama continued to press this issue through Sec. Shinseki's announcement of $10.3 million in grants to eliminate homelessness in October of this year, saying, "The grants will also greatly benefit homeless women veterans, including women with children, elderly women, or those who may be terminally ill."

Support after our troops return home is a vital and necessary need for our military services. Our female veterans have served our country and need the assistance strongly advocated by our President.
