Who is Thad McCotter?

Don’t worry, we didn’t really know either.

Thad McCotter is a GOP candidate for president whose policy positions don’t distinguish him from other contenders – he’s ready to end Medicare as we know it and protect the wealthy at the expense of seniors the middle class.

So why is a “little-known” congressman from Livonia, Michigan, with almost no national presence, running for president?

The answer: to unify the “Tea Party and the Reagan Republicans.”

So, McCotter has joined a cast of candidates such as Michelle Bachman and Mitt Romney who want to repeal health reform and dismantle Social Security. He voted for the Ryan Republican plan and opposed the Recovery Act, even though it’s helped create more than 2.4 million private-sector jobs.

McCotter’s record on education would leave students in the lurch. He voted against lowering student loan interest rates, has opposed increases to Pell Grants, and even voted against a program which helps curb the cost of healthy meals for children in lower-income areas.

Additionally, Thad McCotter’s extreme ideology has led him to vote against funding Planned Parenthood and support far-reaching legislation restricting women’s rights.

If McCotter is running to boost dwindling book sales (it’s not even in the 100,000 most popular books sold on Amazon.com), it probably won’t work. Trust us, Newt already tired that.
