Tweet for jobs

Despite President Obama's repeated calls for Congress to pass the American Jobs Act, legislators have yet to take action—and Republican leader Eric Cantor has even gone so far as to declare he won't let the President's jobs plan get a vote in the House.

You can help keep up the pressure on your Republican legislators to #passthebill, as we say on Twitter. And now, letting them know how much the American people need this bill to pass is as easy as sending a tweet.

Check out this one-stop shop to find your Republican members of Congress, tweet them directly, and invite your friends to make their voices heard in the halls of Congress—and on Twitter.

President Obama to Eric Cantor: “Come down here to Dallas and explain”

Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor announced yesterday that he wouldn't let President Obama's American Jobs Act—a bill that economists say would help create 1.9 million domestic jobs—be brought to the floor for a vote in the House.

The President responded to Rep. Cantor today in remarks about his jobs bill in Mesquite, Texas:

"Well, I’d like Mr. Cantor to come down here to Dallas and explain what in this jobs bill he doesn’t believe in. Does he not believe in rebuilding America’s roads and bridges? Does he not believe in tax breaks for small businesses, or efforts to help veterans?

"Mr. Cantor should come down to Dallas, look Kim Russell in the eye, and tell her why she doesn’t deserve to get a paycheck again. Come tell her students why they don’t deserve to have their teacher back.

"Come tell Dallas construction workers why they should be sitting home instead of fixing our bridges and our schools.

"Come tell the small-business owners and workers in this community why you’d rather defend tax breaks for millionaires than tax cuts for the middle class.

"And if you won’t do that, at least put this jobs bill up for a vote so that the entire country knows exactly where every member of Congress stands."

Weekly address: “Fighting for the American Jobs Act”

It's been nearly three weeks since President Obama introduced his jobs bill to Congress—and lawmakers have taken no action whatsoever. In his weekly address, the President said it's time for Congress to act so that we can put more Americans back to work:

"I know one Republican was quoted as saying that their party shouldn’t pass this jobs bill because it would give me a win. Well, this isn’t about giving me a win, and it’s not about them. … It is time for the politics to end. Let’s pass this jobs bill."
