DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Statement on Results of Kansas Republican Caucuses

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement on the results of the Republican caucuses in Kansas:

“Today, Republican caucus-goers across the state of Kansas delivered a decisive message: Mitt Romney’s failure to connect with voters isn’t just a problem with one voting bloc or constituency – it goes across the political spectrum. Mitt Romney has already done incredible damage to himself with the very independent voters that he’ll need to win should he make it to November; they have watched him pander to the Tea Party on immigration, women’s health and virtually every issue in between, and his out-of-touch positions will cost him dearly.

“But Mitt Romney’s loss in today’s caucuses demonstrates that Romney can’t even close the deal with his own Republican base. That’s because they know what voters across the country are continuing to learn: that Mitt Romney has no core and will say anything to get elected. It happened again this week, when more evidence emerged that Mitt Romney supported a national health care law with an individual mandate though he has told primary voters repeatedly that he did not. Clearly, Kansas Republicans are not amused by Romney’s desperate attempts to win votes by talking out of both sides of his mouth.

"Republican and independent voters share one thing: they simply do not trust Mitt Romney to lead – and that’s exactly why the increasingly messy Republican nominating process is still far from over.”

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Statement on Tonight’s Republican Primary and Caucus Results

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement on the GOP presidential primary and caucus results tonight:

“The muddled mess that is the Republican presidential nominating contest continued tonight as Republican voters who are unenthusiastic and unmotivated, failed to consolidate around a single candidate. It was a particularly bad night for Mitt Romney who once again failed to close the deal with Republican Primary voters despite the millions he's spent and the more than half a decade he's been trying.

"Mitt Romney's stuck in a dead heat with Rick Santorum in Ohio and might just squeak out a win there despite out-spending him there four to one and pummeling Santorum with millions in negative ads. If his weak performance in Ohio wasn't bad enough, Romney under performed in Virginia where his only competition was Ron Paul, came in third in North Dakota after winning there in 2008 and is losing among independents and young voters in key contests across the country.

"Even after pandering to the Tea Party on everything from immigration to contraception, refusing to condemn the slanderous rhetoric of Rush Limbaugh, and after trying to buy the election with millions in negative ads from him and his allies, Mitt Romney is barely limping ahead of a weak and flawed field. Voters in his own party are learning what independent voters who have flocked away from him in droves already know: Mitt Romney has no core values, will say anything to get elected and can't be trusted to lead."

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Statement on Results of Nevada Republican Caucus

Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement tonight on the results of the Republican caucus in Nevada:

"This week we’ve seen more evidence of the candidate who will say anything to get elected.  On every issue important to Nevadans and all Americans– from jobs and housing to immigration –Mitt Romney might try to tell voters what they want to hear, but the fact is he’s on the wrong side of the issues.

"Romney is running on his private sector experience and job creation record, but what he won’t tell voters is that he was actually a corporate raider who lined his pockets by running companies into the ground, closing factories, firing workers and sending jobs overseas.  He’s tried to pander to Hispanic voters, when he’s already called the DREAM Act a ‘handout’ and promised to veto it if he had the chance.  And he says he wants to help America’s struggling homeowners, but he hasn’t offered a single plan to do so – what’s worse, earlier this week he doubled down on the outrageous statement he originally made in Nevada that we should let the foreclosure process ‘hit the bottom.

"But Mitt Romney’s failed agenda isn’t just wrong for Nevadans – it’s wrong for the entire country.  Every week, every contest, everywhere he goes, Romney has shown he’s out of touch with the needs of the middle class and doesn’t understand what American families are going through.  In Florida, he said the banks are feeling the same pain as families are feeling – going into Nevada, he said he isn’t concerned about the very poor.

"The truth is we’re ready to face any of the Republican candidates because they are all fundamentally flawed, and they all support the policies of the past that drove our economy to the brink of collapse.  But thanks to President Obama’s leadership, we are starting to dig ourselves out.  So while the GOP field keeps trying to drag our country backward, the President will continue to move America forward – and come November, the choice for voters will be crystal-clear.”
