“Toast to the Future” on June 28 in Hollywood

Message from YDA Interim Executive Director Christine Pelosi:

I’m pleased to announce a “Toast to the Future” for the Young Democrats of America and California Young Democrats on Tuesday, June 28 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in Hollywood with special guest, Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti.  The fundraising reception will take place at Velvet Margarita (1612 N Cahuenga Blvd).  Tickets are $100 for supporters and $36 for Young Democrats under the age of 36.  You can also join the host committee by committing to write or raise $1,000 towards the event.

Please visit our ActBlue page to RSVP and purchase your tickets.

YDA is dedicated to training a new generation of Democratic political leaders across the country. We are busy activating thousands of our members as we prepare for the 2011 and 2012 election cycles.  This year we have participated in the “We Are One” labor solidarity rallies and partnered with Democracy for America in an effort to protect voter rights.  We’ve also offered YDA Boot Camps at regional conferences where we discussed creating jobs, performing community outreach and service, building labor coalitions, and keeping America safe and free.

The California Young Democrats are the official youth arm of the California Democratic Party, and are dedicated to using proven peer-to-peer techniques to empower and mobilize the youth vote to turn out for Democrats and win elections across the state. As part of its political activities, CYD conducts targeted programs to help bolster Democratic chances in key elections through activist training, voter registration efforts, and “campaign invasions” targeting closely contested races throughout California.

I hope to see you on June 28 as we toast to the future of the Democratic Party.

Christine Pelosi: “Memorial Day 2011 – empathize and act”

YDA Interim Executive Director Christine Pelosi offers her thoughts to Politico about Memorial Day 2011:

“…Yet for today’s military, including over 1.7 million minor children with a parent serving in the military or the 200,000 unemployed veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan or the Blue and Gold Star families, there is no gauzy past but a very grim present. America remains at war, with physical and mental wounds suffered daily. This relatively small percentage of families bear the burden for all of us. Few of us can imagine what it is like to hear the phone ring or see the message indicator flash and wonder if this is a stoic hello or tragic news.  On Memorial Day 2011 we can empathize and act…”
