President Obama yesterday recognized Domestic Violence Awareness Month, issuing a proclamation calling attention to domestic violence in the month of October. “By engaging men and women, mothers and fathers, and schools and universities in the fight, we can teach our children about healthy relationships,” President Obama said. DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz joined in the observation by wearing a purple ribbon, a symbol in the fight against abuse.

New polls find the wealthy are just as supportive of President Obama’s proposal to raise taxes on top earners as the average American is. A survey conducted by American Express finds 65 percent of people earning more than $100,000 support a tax increase on millionaires while 64 percent in a CBS poll of all Americans would support a similar increase for households earning more than $1 million or more annually.

The Obama campaign issued a memo yesterday pointing out the extreme policies embraced by Republican presidential candidates in their effort to please the party’s radical right wing. The memo lays out a number of GOP proposals—including tax cuts for the wealthy, health care reform repeal and abolition of the EPA—that are fundamentally out of touch with American voters.
